March 9, 2021 – Microsoft Windows 10 Update 5000802 causing Blue Screen Errors

 

On March 9, 2021 Microsoft released an update which had some unfortunate side effects.

  • Printing, with certain Type-3 printer drivers, would result in Blue Screen Errors.
  • Accessing Microsoft Office documents on a network drive would result in Blue Screen Errors.

 

The issue is most often seen with update number 5000802, however, depending on the version of Windows being used, update numbers 5000822, 5000808, and 5000809 may also result in the same Blue Screen errors. There are also reports of this affecting Windows 7 computers as well.

 

Realizing the issues that were caused by this update, on March 15, 2021, Microsoft released Out of Band update number 5001567 which is supposed to fix the Blue Screen Errors caused by the previously released updates.

 

Update 5001567 will not install automatically and must be installed manually.

The offending updates should be uninstalled before installing the 5001567 update.

 

The offending updates can be removed through windows updates or by running the following commands at a command prompt.

wusa /uninstall /kb:5000802

wusa /uninstall /kb:5000822

wusa /uninstall /kb:5000808

wusa /uninstall /kb:5000809

 

In some instances, it may be necessary to disable Windows Updates to prevent the offending updates from being reinstalled.
